MEN’S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

RESULTS

GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Weston Eklund and Tanner Carbaugh led the Radford men's golf team to a seventh-place showing in the conclusion of the 2012 Big South Championship on Wednesday.

The final round featured a double tee, with the Highlanders beginning on the 10th tee box, and was delayed a part of the afternoon due to heavy rain.  The 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 7,120-yard layout at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor.

Radford combined to shoot a 297, the fourth lowest final-round score in program history.  The Highlanders' foursome finished with an 892 (+28), which tied last year's mark and stood as the second lowest 54-hole total at the championship in team history.

Radford was led by Eklund's five-over 221 performance.  He jumped one position up the leaderboard (T-22nd) due to a two-over final round.  Sitting at four-over through 12 holes, Eklund went two-under the rest of the way, which showcased birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-4 ninth.

Carbaugh began the day in the red with a birdie on the par-4 12th.  After giving three back on No. 14, 17 and 4, Carbaugh returned after the rain delay to birdie back-to-back holes on 5 and 6 to return to even par.  He gave a shot back on the final hole and took a team-best +1 scorecard into the clubhouse.  He finished the tournament with a career-low 223 and tied for 24th.

Joining Carbaugh at one-over on the front nine was Callum Tarren, who used two birdies against three bogeys.  Tarren would shoot in the red on the par-5 eighth and finish three-over 75 for the day.  He joined Carbaugh in a tie for 24th at 223.

Michael Wade wrapped up his four-year Radford career with a three-over 75 final-round score and 226 (+10) overall performance.  The senior posted his three-over tally on the front nine and held par over the back to finish in a tie for 29th and record Radford's fourth score.

Ryan Rettberg also competed for Radford and posted an eight-over 80.  He closed his round with a birdie on the par-4 9th hole.  He concluded with a three-day total of 238.

No. 32 Liberty took the team crown with an 844 and Robert Karlsson of the Flames won medalist honors with his 206 (-10).
