ERWIN SPENCER NAMED TO VASID ALL-STATE TEAM

NORFOLK, Va. – Radford point guard Da'Naria Erwin Spencer was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Women's Basketball All-State Second Team, announced Wednesday afternoon.

It was Erwin Spencer's first career appearance on the state team and became the first Highlander since Kelli Darden in 2008 to earn a spot on the list.  In addition, she became the fifth player to make the second team.

Erwin Spencer started in all 31 games and was a first team All-Big South selection.  She led Radford to an appearance in the league semifinals and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.  The four-time Big South Player of the Week averaged 17.4 points per contest and dished out 3.8 assists per game.  She had 26 games in double figures and 14 games of 20 or more points.

The highlight of her season came at Campbell on Feb. 6 when she recorded her 1,000th point.  She hit the milestone in style, converting a three-point play as she got fouled on the way up and drained the ensuing free throw. She joined Stephanie Howard, Patrinda Toney and Shannan Wilkey – the Top-3 scorers in Radford history - as the only four players to accomplish the feat during their junior year.

Furthermore, she also finished the season in the Top-10 in career assists and steals and is just four points shy of joining the Top-10 scorers in Radford history.
