RADFORD, Va. – Top-seeded Radford stranded 10 runners and No. 2 Coastal Carolina hit a pair of two-run home runs as the Highlanders fell in the semifinals, 4-0, and was eliminated from 2012 Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting and Brookwood Farms Barbeque Saturday afternoon at RU Softball Field.
The defeat ended a three-year run of Championship game appearances as Radford concludes the season with a 34-21 mark in 2012.
Senior
Michelle Beall, in her final contest, went 2-for-3 and 4-for-7 on the day.
Coastal's Ashley Bagwell got out of several jams to earn the complete-game shutout. She scattered seven hits, walked four and struck out four.
Coastal got off to another quick start as Kiana Quolas hit a two-out, two-run HR in the first after a two-out walk to Kory Hayden extended the first inning.
Hayden doubled the Chanticleers lead to 4-0 with a two-run shot to center on a 0-2 pitch in the fifth.
Radford had its opportunities to get on the board, but couldn't get the big hit with all the runners on base, which included bases loaded in the sixth and two runners in the fifth and seventh.
Seniors
Hannah Ojeda and
Vicki Madden also recorded singled in their final game in the red and white.
Freshman
Micalah Sacre suffered the defeat as she allowed two run on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
