SOFTBALL HEADS TO CHARLESTON WITH TOP SEED ON THE LINE

Live Stats | Live Video

Radford Softball concludes its regular season this weekend on the road at Charleston Southern in a matchup of the top two squads in the Big South and the battle for the top seed at next week's conference tournament.

The Highlanders (30-18, 14-4 Big South) are three games ahead of the Buccaneers (29-22, 11-7) in the standings and need one win to clinch their fourth consecutive regular season title. A sweep by Charleston Southern would give it a share of that title and the top seed for the upcoming 2012 Big South Tournament hosted by Radford University at RU Softball Field, May 10-13.

Radford is coming off a series win over Gardner-Webb last weekend. After dropping game one, the Highlanders earned 4-1 and 8-0 triumphs in the final two contests. The series-clinching win on Sunday was highlighted by a season-high four home runs and a combined three-hit shutout.

Charleston Southern split at College of Charleston on Wednesday in a mid-week doubleheader with its crosstown rivals. The Buccaneers won the opener, 3-0, before falling in the nightcap, 7-3. In CSU's last league series, it dropped two-of-three at Gardner-Webb picking up an 8-1 win in the series finale.
