VOLLEYBALL WRAPS UP TOURNAMENT PLAY IN PHILLY

MATCH NOTES

RADFORD, Va. –
The Radford volleyball team concludes the tournament portion of the 2012 slate in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Penn Invitational Friday and Saturday. Along with the Highlanders and the host Quakers, George Mason and Rutgers will also be competing.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
♦  George Mason enters Friday's contest 2-8 on the year and will be the second straight CAA opponent for the Highlanders. The Patriots are led by Lana Zonjic with 2.80 kills per set and Bernetta Moore with 3.69 digs per set. Tori Price is GMU's lead setter with 256 helpers, while Lolade Owokoniran blocks 1.06 attacks per set for Mason.
 
♦  The Patriots have never lost to Radford, owning a 5-0 lead in the series.
 
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
♦  Rutgers may serve as the stiffest test for the Highlanders thus far, as the Scarlet Knights bring an 11-1 mark into Friday's tilt. The BIG EAST member's lone defeat was dealt by the Miami Hurricanes on Aug. 25. Rutgers is led by three players who tally over three kills per set - Alex Lassa (3.70), Sarah Schmid (3.33) and Kylie Orr (3.23). Tracy Wright contributes 4.07 digs per set, while Stephanie Zielinski is the lead setter with 504 handouts.
 
♦  Saturday's contest marks the third meeting between the RU's, with Rutgers holding a 2-0 edge.
 
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
♦  Penn brings in a 3-3 record to its home tournament. Emma White leads the Quakers on the attack with three kills per set, while Susan Stuecheli rejects 1.10 attacks per set. Ronnie Bither has 209 assists on the year.
 
♦  RU and Penn have never faced each other before Saturday's tilt.
 
LAST TIME OUT
♦  Radford fell in straight sets on Tuesday to in-state foe James Madison. Set scores were 15-25, 18-25 and 16-25. Christine Beckham led the Highlanders with 14 assists and 13 digs for her first double-double of the season.
 
ON DECK
♦  After RU concludes play in Philly, the squad returns to the Commonwealth to open Big South play at Liberty on Friday, Sept. 21. The matchup between the No.1 and No. 2 preseason picks is slated for 7:00 p.m. inside the Vines Center.
