SEASON-HIGH ATTACK CLIP PROPELS VOLLEYBALL OVER UNC ASHEVILLE, 3-0

BOX SCORE ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind a season-high 35.6 hitting percentage, Radford volleyball dispatched UNC Asheville in straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-21) on Friday night in Big South action. The Highlanders improve to 10-8 overall, 1-1 in league play, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-14 on the season, 0-2 in conference competition.

Emily Carlin and Yacine Meyer contributed 12 kills each to lead the visitors, while Emily Hayes put down eight. Hayes, Meyer, and Jesse Miedema (seven kills) hit over 40 percent for the match. Meyer chipped in 10 digs to record her third double-double of the year.

Jena Braden (22) and Christine Beckham (17) combined for 39 assists, while Katelyn Meeks fueled the defensive effort with a match-high 16 digs.

Holly Shelton notched 10 kills and 11 digs to pace the hosts, while Katie Davis assisted on 28 attacks. Rachel Wells added a team-high 12 digs.

After UNCA tallied the first six points of the first frame, the Highlanders countered with an 8-2 run to tie the set at 8. With the Bulldogs leading 17-15, Radford generated an 8-1 run to create enough separation to grab the opening set, 25-21.

In the second stanza, the Highlanders forced the issue by racing out to a 9-3 advantage—prompting a UNCA timeout. RU extended its lead to 19-10 late in the set and went on to take a 2-0 lead in the match following the 25-14 victory.

The Highlanders wasted little time snatching the lead in the third set, taking a 12-6 edge early on. Kills from Carlin, Miedema, and Meyer stretched the margin to 20-13, forcing a Bulldog timeout. UNCA got to within three of the Highlanders, before RU ended the match on a Carlin kill to register its sixth sweep of the season.

Radford stays on the road for a Saturday tilt with Gardner-Webb inside Paul Porter Arena. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. with the Runnin' Bulldogs (6-13), which fell to Liberty Friday night in straight sets.
