GORWITZ, SCHEREN LEAD HIGHLANDER PACK AT CHARLOTTE INVITATIONAL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Brian Gorwitz finished 47th in a pack of 222 runners on Friday evening to help the Radford men's cross country team finish 16th out of 35 squads at the Charlotte Invitational. The women's squad concluded the meet in 25th out of 33 teams.
 
Behind Gorwitz's time of 25:47.31 was Ryan Farnan, who crossed the finish line in a personal-best 25:55.07 to end up in 53rd place. Chris Weeks finished 98th with a time of 26:41.38, while Daniel Moniak finished 116th at 27:02.24.
 
Sam Keltner came in 121st with a pace of 27:06.51, while Harrison Murn finished 173rd at 29:05.55. Thomas Keefe ended the race in 203rd with a time of 30:57.06.
 
Virginia Tech posted a 123:17.58 ledger to best runner-up Wake Forest by nearly two minutes. UNC Pembroke's Pardon Ndhlovu took the individual title with a pace of 24:20.72.
 
On the women's side, Hannah Scheren led the Highlanders with a time of 24:10.58 to finish 108th out of 211 runners. Emily Marshall posted a pace of 25:15.99, while Madeline Thomas had a 26:34.04 mark. Maggie Wissler came in at 27:21.57 and Casey Clark crossed the finish line in 27:52.74. Ashley Lounsbury completed the course in 28:54.15 to finish 183rd.
 
Clemson won the women's race with a total time of 110:46.80, over one minute better than runner-up Appalachian State. The Mountaineers were coming off a win two weeks ago at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational. Wake Forest's Nicole Irving claimed the individual race with a 20:59.58 mark.
 
The Highlanders' next meet will be at the Blue Ridge Open in two weeks. The races are set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
