DOUBLE-DOUBLES BY CARLIN, MEYER NOT ENOUGH AS RADFORD FALLS TO RUNNIN’ BULLDOGS, 3-1

BOX SCORE BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Emily Carlin and Yacine Meyer each recorded double-doubles, but the Radford volleyball team fell to Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 (22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 17-25), inside Paul Porter Arena.

Carlin charted a season-high 13 kills and 16 digs to chart her third double-double of the season for the Highlanders (10-9, 1-2 Big South). Meyer notched her second consecutive double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Katelyn Meeks contributed a match-high 24 digs, while Emily Hayes had three aces. Meeks moves past Rachel Newton into second all-time in digs at Radford with 1,306 for her career. Christine Beckham (22) and Jena Braden (21) combined for 43 assists.

Tyler Cockrell led the Runnin' Bulldogs (7-13, 2-1 Big South) with 14 kills, while Emily Holte chipped in 10. Dominique Bray finished with a team-high 20 digs and Heather Feldman dished out a match-high 39 helpers, to go along with 13 digs.

Radford outscored the hosts 8-2 in the early going of the first frame, prompting GWU to call a timeout. The Runnin' Bulldogs got down by as many as eight, before they rallied to tie the set, using an 11-3 run to do so. With the set tied at 22, Gardner-Webb seized the final three points to prevail in the opening stanza, 25-22.

Scoring the first three points of the second stanza, the Highlanders once again took the early lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs tied the set at 14 and from there the squads were locked into a tight one. Ahead 20-19, GWU utilized a 4-1 run to set up set point. However, RU rallied to tie the set at 24, just to see the hosts win the next two points to take the frame, 26-24.

The Highlanders established a 5-1 advantage early in the third set and extended it to 13-6 following a Gardner-Webb timeout. The lead proved to be enough as RU cruised to the 25-18 win and pulled to within one of the Runnin' Bulldogs in the match.

Gardner-Webb changed the trend of the match, as the hosts were the ones with the early lead, 6-3, in set four. The Highlanders tied it at 9 after a Carlin kill, but it was all Runnin' Bulldogs from there as GWU claimed the 25-17 match-clinching victory.

Radford returns to the Dedmon Center for its next two matches as part of the Athletics Hall of Fame weekend. The Highlanders welcome High Point on Friday at 7:00 p.m., before clashing with Campbell on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
