VOLLEYBALL PREPS FOR WVU GOLDEN HORSESHOE CHALLENGE

RADFORD, Va. –
The Radford volleyball team is back in action Friday and Saturday, competing in the WVU Golden Horseshoe Challenge hosted by West Virginia in Morgantown. Up first for the Highlanders is a Friday contest with Wright State at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Radford will battle the Mountaineers and Saint Peter's at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
 
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
♦  Wright State enters Friday's contest searching for its first win of the season, having only won three sets through eight matches. The Raiders are led by Heidi Splinter (2.85 kills per set) and Ashleigh Lucco (219 assists).
 
♦  Wright State owns a 1-0 edge in the series with the Highlanders.
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
♦  West Virginia is coming off a 1-3 weekend where it dropped straight-set decisions to South Carolina and tournament host George Mason, while defeating Navy. Hannah Sackett paces the Mountaineer attack with 3.78 kills per set, while Brittany Sample has dished out 219 assists through seven matches.
 
♦  Saturday's contest marks the first meeting between WVU and Radford.
 
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
♦  Saint Peter's lone win of the season was against St. Francis (N.Y.), which Radford swept in its second match of the year. The Peacocks get 2.67 kills per set from Laura Reinhart and Kristina Baehr is the lead setter with 208 assists thus far.
 
♦  RU and Saint Peter's have never faced each other before Saturday's tilt.
 
LAST TIME OUT
♦  After falling behind 2-0, the Highlanders rallied to tie the match, but fell in the decisive fifth set to Elon on Tuesday night inside the Dedmon Center. Set scores were 23-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-15 and 12-15.
 
ON DECK
♦  After RU wraps up play in West Virginia, the squad stays on the road for a Tuesday match at James Madison. The Dukes and Highlanders will be meeting for the 28th time, with JMU holding a 23-4 edge in the series.
