VOLLEYBALL CLOBBERS SAINT PETER’S FOR FOURTH SWEEP OF SEASON

BOX SCORE MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Radford volleyball team rebounded in a big way in its final match of the WVU Golden Horseshoe Challenge as the Highlanders demolished Saint Peter's College, 3-0, on Saturday evening inside WVU Coliseum. Set scores were 25-13, 25-14 and 25-12.

Emily Hayes and Cheyanne James led a balanced offensive attack with nine and seven kills, respectively. On the defensive end, Yacine Meyer charted a team-high 13 digs and Katelyn Meeks chipped in 10. Meyer and Rachel Fertitta were selected to the all-tournament team.

Jena Braden served up a match-high 17 assists to go along with two aces in the abbreviated contest.

Lauren Behrens tallied a team-high six kills and Jenny Pliska was credited with a match-high 17 digs for the Peacocks (1-11).

Holding an opponent to a negative attack percentage for the first time this season, Radford (6-5) was able to make quick work of the competition. With the opening set tied at 5, the Highlanders went on a 12-4 run propelling them to a 25-13 game one victory.

Scoring the first six points of the second stanza, RU would extend the gap to 10 points at 14-4. Saint Peter's got to within five, 16-11, but the Highlanders closed the set on a 9-3 surge to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third game was no different as Radford won the first five points to generate an early lead. The Peacocks made a push and tied the set at 8-8. The Highlanders were there with an answer, however, responding with a 12-3 rally that put the game and match out of reach for any Saint Peter's comeback.

With the win, Radford records its second sweep in as many days and fourth on the season. The Highlanders also improve to 3-1 in neutral site contests.

RU is back on the court in three days when the squad travels up I-81 for a non-conference clash with in-state rival James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Tuesday tilt is set for 6:00 p.m. inside Sinclair Gymnasium.
