HIGHLANDERS HIT THE ROAD IN THE BIG SOUTH FOR SATURDAY SHOWDOWN AT ASHEVILLE

RADFORD, Va. -
Behind the momentum of beating High Point on Wednesday, Radford hits the road for the first time in the Big South Conference season on Saturday. The Highlanders pay a visit to two-time defending conference tournament champion, UNC Asheville for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.

THE SERIES
♦ UNC Asheville leads the overall series 31-30. The teams are both original members of the Big South Conference and have played each year since the 1985-86 season.
♦ Radford is 10-18 all-time in games between the two schools played at Asheville. The Highlanders are just 1-12 at UNCA since winning there in the regular season meeting of the 1999-00 campaign.
♦ The Bulldogs have won five straight games in the series.
♦ UNC Asheville is the only Big South opponent that owns a winning series record over the Highlanders (Campbell 17-11; Charleston Southern 41-25; Coastal Carolina 35-19; Gardner-Webb 5-5; High Point 18-16; Liberty 33-27; Longwood 12-4; Presbyterian 5-5; UNC Asheville 30-31; VMI 19-18; Winthrop 31-30).

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
♦ UNC Asheville enters today's game with a 7-9 overall and 1-1 record in the Big South South Division. The Bulldogs fell Wenesday at Gardner-Webb, 78-71.
♦ This afternoon's game is the conference home opener for UNCA. The Bulldogs are currently 4-1 at home on the season.
♦ UNCA is 6-3 in its last nine games, including road victories at Northeastern and St. John's. The Bulldogs also have narrow losses to North Carlina State (82-80), Tennessee (75-68), Providence (72-67), and an overtime loss to Charlotte (71-63).
♦ The Bulldogs and the Highlanders played just one similar opponent in the non-conference season, Charlotte. UNCA lost to the 49ers in overtime.
♦ Jeremy Atkinson leads the Bulldogs in both scoring (17.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg). He ranks fourth and sixth in the Big South in those categories, respectively.
♦ Keith Hornsby is one of the top shooter in the Big South and in the NCAA. He averages 15.3 points per game, and the second ranked free throw shooter in the nation (.957). Hornsby has miss just two free throw attempts in 47 chances on the season. He also hits .456 from behind the three-point arc.
♦ D.J. Cunningham leads the Big South in blocked shots at 2.80 per game. He is currently 17th in the NCAA in blocked shots per game.
♦ As a team, the Bulldogs lead the Big South in blocked shots at 5.25 per contest. UNCA also ranks third in scoring at 72.8 points per game. The Bulldogs do have a negative turnover margin on the season (-0.06 tpg).
