BIG SOUTH OPENER VS. SOUTH DIVISION FAVORITE AT THE DEDMON CENTER ON SATURDAY

GAME NOTES

RADFORD, Va. -
The Big South Conference slate tips off for the Radford men's basketball team Saturday as the Highlanders play host to South Division preseason favorite, Charleston Southern, at the Dedmon Center. Tip is set for 4:00 p.m., and the game can be seen live on-line on ESPN3.com.

THE SERIES
♦ Radford leads the all-time series, 41-24. In their history, the Highlanders have played more games against the Buccaneers than any other team.
♦ Radford is 23-7 all-time in games between the two schools played at Radford.
♦ Charleston Southern has won four straight games in the series. The last victory in the series for Radford came in the 2010 Big South Tournament quarterfinals in Conway, S.C., 64-61.
♦ The Highlanders have played the Buccaneers eight times in their Big South opener (four times as Baptist College) including the first seven years the conference existed (1986-87 to 1992-93). Radford is 6-2 in those games, but CSU won last year, 83-73.

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
♦ Charleston Southern was the preseason choice to win the South Division in the Big South Conference. It is the first time the Buccaneers have been picked atop the league in the preseason poll.
♦ The Bucs enter today's game having defeated Virginia Intermont, 105-59, at home last Saturday to move to 5-6 on the season. CSU is 1-4 on the road with its only win coming at East Tennessee State, 72-51.
♦ There are two common opponents between Radford and CSU is Charlotte. RU fell at UNC Charlotte, 68-52, while the Buccaneers dropped a 68-58 decision to the 49ers. Both teams defeated The Citadel. RU won on the road, 74-61, while CSU won at home, 101-73.
♦ The Buccaneers are led by a pair of preseason All-Big South selections. Arlon Harper was a second-team preseason selection and leads CSU averaging 16.2 points per game. Saah Nimley was a first-team preseason selection and is second on the team at 14.6 points per game. Paul Gombwer leads the team with a 6.9 rebounding average.

STATS NUGGETS
Javonte Green leads the Big South in steals per game at 2.3.
R.J. Price leads the Big South in three-point field goals made per game at 2.8.
Ya Ya Anderson set a career high with 21 points at North Carolina A&T.
Jalen Carethers tied career highs with seven rebound and three blocks at N.C. A&T.

LINEUP SHUFFLE
R.J. Price returned to the starting lineup Wednesday at North Carolina A&T after healing from an injured ankle. Price missed two games against Charlotte and West Virginia, and returned off the bench against Central Penn. He scored 14 points against the N.C. A&T. Rashun Davis started in his place against Charlotte, West Virginia, and Central Penn.
Jalen Carethers started in place of Kyle Noreen at Charlotte.
Kion Brown has started nine straight games since replacing Brandon Holcomb, who started the first five games at center.
Blake Smith and Javonte Green have started every game this season.
♦ The Highlanders have used four different starting lineups this season.
