BLACKSBURG, Va. – Four members of the Radford men's tennis team were in action Friday and all four walked away with victories following day two of the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Doubles action kicked the day off for the Highlanders as Joe Mills and Javier Waase defeated Navy's Calvin Mark and Blake Daniel, 8-2. The tandem advances to Saturday's round of 32 where Virginia Tech's 17th-ranked and second-seeded tandem of Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus await for a 9:45 a.m. clash.
The duo of Nicholas Sayer and Patrick O'Keefe clinched their third win of the fall by toppling Virginia's Jonathan Cornish and Alex Scheinman, 8-6. They also move on to the round of 32 to play Carlos Lopez Villa and Dante Terenzio of Old Dominion at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
Mills was the lone Highlander to play singles Friday. Going against Georgetown's Yannik Mahlangu, the senior claimed the decision in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) to advance to the main draw's round of 32. Up next for Mills is a battle with Roman Trkulja of Penn State on Saturday.
In addition to Mills, Sayer plays Temple's Santiago Canete and O'Keefe squares off against Pete Carpenter of Duquesne in the round of 32. Results will be posted at this link upon completion of each match.
