RADFORD, Va. – Head coach Mike McGuire and the Radford women's basketball team held their first official practice of the season Friday afternoon inside the Dedmon Center.

McGuire, who is in his first season at the helm of the Highlanders, inherits seven returnees off a squad that finished 16-14 overall and 9-9 in Big South play. RU earned the sixth seed for the 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women's Basketball Tournament and advanced to the semifinals for the second straight season.

Success is something McGuire has become accustomed to in his stints as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond and head coach at nearby Hidden Valley High School. With the Spiders, McGuire compiled a 101-60 record and made the postseason each of his five seasons he was in the Commonwealth's capital. As head coach of the Titans, McGuire guided the program to back-to-back Group AA state titles in 2007 and 2008, while finishing with a 55-5 mark.
