O’KEEFE INTO SEMIFINALS AT UVA FALL CLASSIC

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Patrick O'Keefe won a pair of singles matches Friday to lead the Radford men's tennis team at the UVa Fall Classic hosted by the Cavaliers at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Seeded No. 1 in the red singles draw, O'Keefe dispatched Aaron Capitel of George Mason in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) in the Round of 16. The Salem, Va. native also prevailed in his quarterfinal clash with Hunter Whalen of Big South rival Coastal Carolina (7-5, 6-1). O'Keefe encounters East Tennessee State's Ricardo Pabon in the semifinals at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Also winning a singles decision Friday was Nicholas Sayer, who defeated Virginia Tech's Jai Corbett (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) to advance to the quarterfinals. The senior ran into Wake Forest's Nicky Kunz in the next round where he fell in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). Sayer is set to face Norfolk State's Robin Riethmueller in a fifth-place bracket semifinal match of the blue singles draw at 1 p.m. Saturday.

After dropping his opening-round match to Jason Luu of Cornell (6-4, 6-2), Joe Mills rebounded to beat Penn State's David Kohan in a tight tilt (6-4, 7-5). The senior meets James Madison's Miljna Ruzic in a consolation semifinal match of the white singles bracket at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Daniel Myers will seek his first victory at the event when he collides with Nick Barker of George Mason at 12:30 p.m. in the black singles flight, while Javier Waase will try to do the same against William & Mary's Addison Appelby at 1 p.m. in the green singles draw.

In doubles action, Sayer and O'Keefe will challenge George Washington's Nikita Fomin and Viktor Svensson at 9 a.m. The Colonials' duo is seeded No. 2 in the orange doubles bracket. Also at 9 a.m., Mills and Waase will square off against Longwood's Harry Kelleher and James Fudge in the black doubles draw.
