KELBY JACKSON SELECTED BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford volleyball's Kelby Jackson was designated The Crons Brand Big South Freshman of the Week for her play in guiding the Highlanders to a 2-1 record last week. League officials made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Earning the libero jersey in just her first season at RU, Jackson has steadily improved her defensive presence on the Highlanders' backline. In Radford's three matches last week, the Winchester, Va. native played in 13 sets, compiling 47 digs for a 3.62 digs per set mark. She also contributed four assists and two aces.

Jackson corralled a match-high 19 digs in the Highlanders' 3-2 victory over N.C. Central to open the week. Her defensive prowess continued into the weekend as she registered 14 kills in both matches against UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. With the honor, Jackson became Radford's fourth recipient of the conference's freshman of the week, joining Jordan Watson who won the accolade three straight times to begin the season.

"I am very proud of Kelby receiving this honor," head coach Marci Jenkins said. "She is such a hard worker and has gotten better with each match we play. It is a privilege to coach a kid like Kelby and I am glad she was recognized for her play last week."

RU (13-7, 2-1 Big South) is back in action this weekend when it hits the road for the first time in conference play. Up first is an Oct. 11 date with High Point at 7 p.m. inside the Millis Center.
