NORFOLK STATE DEFEATS HIGHLANDERS, 66-54

BOX SCORE

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State placed three players in double figures, offensively, as the Spartans handed Radford a 66-54 loss in nonconference women's basketball action Friday night at Joseph Echols Hall.

Trailing by as many as 14 in the second half, the Highlanders (2-1) fought back and cut its deficit to seven (53-46) after Kermisha Clark split a pair of free throws. However, NSU capitalized on its trips to the charity stripe down the stretch to derail Radford's comeback.

Rachel Gordon had a superb night with game highs of 16 points and 16 rebounds for Norfolk State (1-1). Fueled by a game-high three treys, Ebony Brown chalked up 14 points, while Rae Corbo contributed 12 points. The Spartans connected on 24-of-58 (41.4 percent) from the hardwood.

Breshara Gordon and Ayana Avery both dropped in 14 points to pace the Highlanders. Jordynn Gaymon reeled in a team-high 10 rebounds. RU shot 33.3 percent (22-66) from the floor.

Norfolk State erased a 6-0 deficit early in the first half by mounting a 17-0 rally that spanned over eight minutes. Breshara Gordon's jumper at the 10:12 mark broke Radford's scoring drought and ignited a 15-4 run by the Highlanders to tie the score at 21 with 3:46 to go before halftime. The Spartans went into break on top, 29-25.

Radford continues its six-game road stretch Sunday at Old Dominion. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.
