WIRE-TO-WIRE VICTORY FOR MEN'S BASKETBALL

BOX SCORE |

RADFORD, Va. - For the second straight game, Radford led from the opening tap to the final buzzer as the Highlanders cruised Saturday to a 105-57 victory at the Dedmon Center over Brevard. Javonte Green led all scorers with 22 to lead five players in double figures for RU.

Radford (2-1) scored the first five points of the game and was never threatened in building its lead throughout the first half. RU led 13-5 by the first media timeout as the Highlander defense held the Tornados under 30 percent from the field for much of the first 20 minutes. Meanwhile, on the offensive end of the court, the Highlanders were putting up the most impressive numbers in the three years Mike Jones has been the head coach.

The Highlanders led wire-to-wire in their home opener last Monday against Chattanooga.

RU reached the 100-point plateau for the first time since February of 2010, a 111-84 win at VMI. The Highlanders shot 64.5 percent from the field (40-62) and dished out 21 assists, which are both team highs under Jones. The 21 assists ties a mark set by last year's squad at North Carolina A&T.

"I liked our level of focus tonight," Jones said. "We came out of the game on all cylinders, but it was our defense that set the tone. We were locked in from the beginning and sharing the ball all night long."

The Highlanders dominated the glass with a 46-24 advantage for the night. Brandon Holcomb grabbed 10 to lead RU. Green added seven to go along with five apiece from Kion Brown and Rashun Davis. The rebounding total helped lead to a 16-3 edge in second chance points and a 56-22 spread in points in the paint.

Green's 22 led the way, and R.J. Price and Davis each had 13. Ya Ya Anderson scored in double figures for the third straight game to begin the season with 12, and Jalen Carethers added 10. Allen Dickerson also finished with a career-high nine points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc. In all, the Highlanders buried 10 balls from deep.

"A win like this can give us some confidence, which is very important from a mental standpoint," Jones said.

Miles Leathers led the Tornados with 18 points. Dominique Pickett and Manzey Miller added 13 and 10, respectively. Brevard shot 37 percent from the field and turned the ball over 15 times as RU recorded 10 steals, led by Dickerson's three.

The Highlanders return to the road next Saturday at Binghamton for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
