BOX SCORE

CLINTON, S.C. – The Radford volleyball team held Gardner-Webb to .157 on the attack en route to its 3-0 (30-28, 25-15, 25-22) triumph in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Big South Volleyball Championship Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Center.

With the win, the Highlanders improve to 23-9 and advance to Friday's semifinals where they will meet Liberty at 4:30 p.m. The Runnin' Bulldogs end their season at 15-18.

"I am proud of our team for showing tremendous poise today," head coach Marci Jenkins said. "I give a lot of credit to Gardner-Webb. They are well coached and played very hard. We knew we had to play well because this is the playoffs…win or go home. We look forward to tomorrow's semifinals."

All-Big South performers Cheyanne James and Rachel Wiechecki both contributed double-double efforts in the three-set match. James dropped in a match-high 14 kills and 10 digs, while Wiechecki finished with 13 kills and 13 digs. Kelby Jackson added 12 digs and Savannah Cantrell was credited with four blocks. Jena Braden provided a match-high 33 assists.

Erin Anderson supplied 13 kills and 11 digs for Gardner-Webb. Heather Feldman added a double-double as well with her 29 assists and 12 digs. Anna Pashkova tallied 15 digs and Tyra Montour added four blocks.

James hit .357 in the opening session on her way to six kills in pacing RU to a 30-28 come-from-behind win. After the Highlanders seized a 16-10 favor, Gardner-Webb rallied behind an 8-3 surge to trim its deficit to 19-18. James' swing minutes later presented Radford with its first set point at 24-22. However, the Runnin' Bulldogs displayed resiliency and reclaimed the lead at 27-26. RU responded with a 4-1 run to earn the 1-0 edge.

Radford established an 18-11 advantage in the second stanza and never looked back en route to a 25-15 victory. James and Wiechecki notched four and three kills, respectively, to spark the Highlanders, who hit .280 during the set.

Down 9-4 in the third frame, a Wiechecki blast initiated a 6-0 streak to boost Radford on top by one. With the Highlanders still ahead at 16-15, Gardner-Webb utilized a 4-0 spurt to move in front, 19-16. RU finally reclaimed the lead at 22-21 following a Wiechecki ace. From there, the Highlanders won three of the final four points to continue their season.
