RADFORD, Va.  – The Radford women's basketball team opens a three-game homestand Saturday when it welcomes New River rival Virginia Tech to the Dedmon Center for a nonconference clash at 1 p.m.

MEET THE HOKIES
» Tech was tested in its last outing, only defeating USC Upstate by four (65-61) last Sunday. Nonetheless, the Hokies improved to 8-2 on the season, which is their best start since the 2007-08 season when they opened at 12-2.
» Senior forward Uju Ugoka recorded her fifth consecutive double-double of the season against the Spartans with 27 points and 13 rebounds. She became the first Tech player since Karen Garbis to have five straight games with a double-double, as Garbis accomplished the feat back in February 1978 when she did it in six straight. The game also marked the fourth time this year Ugoka delivered a double-double by scoring at least 20 points.
» One of only four players in the ACC averaging a double-double, Ugoka leads the Hokies in scoring (19.4) and rebounding (10.8). Among ACC players, she ranks fifth in scoring and second in rebounding.
» Freshman guard Vanessa Panousis is making a splash in her first season in Blacksburg, contributing 11.3 ppg. Senior guard Monet Tellier is the third Hokie to average double-figure scoring at 10.2 ppg. She also dishes out a team-best 4.7 apg, which rank third in the ACC. Tellier is 12th all-time in scoring at Virginia Tech with 1,150 for her career.
» As a team, Tech knocks down 41 percent of its shots while scoring 70.5 ppg. The Hokies rank second in the ACC in scoring defense by only allowing 56.8 ppg.
» Tech is strong on the boards as well, crashing the glass for 47.2 rpg, which rank second in the ACC.
» Radford and the Hokies have played one common opponent thus far in Old Dominion. Tech walked away from the Ted Constant Convocation Center with a 73-61 victory, while the Highlanders dropped a 56-37 decision to ODU.
» RU is the second Big South foe for the Hokies this season. Presbyterian College visited Cassell Coliseum Nov. 30 and lost to Tech, 55-33. The Hokies' 55 points were the fewest they have scored all season. The game also marked head coach Dennis Wolff's 300th career win.

VIRGINIA TECH SERIES AT A GLANCE
» The two programs, which are separated by just over 20 minutes, will meet for the 32nd time on the hardwood Saturday. Tech has a 22-9 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1976-77 season. Radford's last win against the Hokies came in 2006 at Cassell Coliseum, 67-60.

UP NEXT
» Radford resumes Big South competition next Saturday, Dec. 28 against Charleston Southern inside the Dedmon Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
