BALANCED SCORING PUSHES CAMPBELL PAST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – 13 players found the scoring column for Campbell Monday night as the Camels won its Big South women's basketball opener over Radford, 72-58, inside Gore Arena.
 
Like previous games, RU made a strong push in the second half. After the Camels went ahead by 21, the Highlanders embarked on a comeback. Radford eventually dwindled its deficit to 13 following a Jordynn Gaymon layup with 34 seconds to go. The junior forward stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 25 minutes of action.
 
Ayana Avery delivered her team-best third double-double of the season for the Highlanders (2-5, 0-1 Big South) by dropping in a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Aisha Foy tallied 11 points and a career-high-tying three assists. Kiera McIvor scored a career-high 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting to accompany her seven rebounds.
 
Roslyn Presley knocked down 6-of-12 from the floor to pace the Camels (4-2, 1-0 Big South) offensively. Ashley James provided a double-double with her 10 points and career-high-tying 14 rebounds. RU did an outstanding job containing preseason All-Big South selection Kiera Gaines, holding the junior to a season-low two points.
 
Campbell finished the game shooting 43.5 percent (27-62). Additionally, the Camels won the battle of the boards (44-37). After converting 26.9 percent of their attempts in the first half, the Highlanders warmed up in the final 20 minutes to finish at 36.1 percent (22-61) for the game.
 
Behind a 10-0 run midway through the opening stanza, Campbell claimed a 24-11 advantage. The Camels connected on 41.7 percent of their shots in the first 20 minutes to grab a 37-20 favor at the break.
 
Radford concludes its season-long six-game road stretch Saturday against in-state rival Liberty. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. from the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va.
