PRICE AND DAVIS LEAD RU TO VEGAS CLASSIC WIN OVER SACRED HEART

BOX SCORE |

LAS VEGAS - R.J. Price tied a career high with 30 points, and Rashun Davis set a career mark with 20 as Radford (7-4) defeated Sacred Heart (2-11) in play Sunday at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic hosted by the Orleans Arena. The Highlanders led throughout the entirety of the game and also got double-digit perfomances from Javonte Green (16) and Jalen Carethers (12).

Price opened the game with a three-point basket and closed the first half with three more over a 90-second span to push the Radford lead to 27 at the break, 55-28. The Highlanders closed the first half on a 14-3 run that ended with a Price jumper from behind the arc as the intermission buzzer sounded. He scored 17 in the first 20 minutes.

"That was the best game I've seen R.J. play in his three years at Radford," head coach Mike Jones said. "And not just in terms of scoring the ball, but getting in the lane and making the right decision."

Price finished with six assists, four rebounds, and three steals while only committing one turnover to complete his stat line for the day. His six three-point field goals tied a career high.

Closely behind Price's performance was that of Davis, who scored 12 of his 20 in the second half. Davis completed the day with five assists and four rebounds as well in 26 minutes off the bench.

"Those two are certainly capable," Jones said.

After seeing RU build the big lead in the first half, the Pioneers made a run in the second and cut the RU lead to as few as eight points, 84-76 with 2:30 remaining.  Radford answered ending on a 10-2 run to close it out.

"We showed a lot of resolve and made some nice plays down the stretch," Jones said.

Carethers tied his career best with his dozen points, and Green added a team-high seven rebounds to go with his 16 points. The Highlanders shot 60 percent from the floor for the game and dished out 17 assists on 34 made shots.

"When we share the ball, we are tough for opponents to guard us," Jones said.

Louis Montes scored 22 to lead the Pioneers, who dropped their fifth straight game. Mostafa Abdel Latif added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Radford will play the winner of Florida A&M / Florida Gulf Coast on Monday at 5:00 p.m. (ET) in the final game of the Las Vegas Classic.
