HIGHLANDERS IMPRESSIVE IN 20-POINT WIN OVER AGGIES

BOX SCORE |

RADFORD, Va. - R.J. Price hit his first five attempts from behind the three-point line and led Radford to a 19-point lead within the first 12 minutes of the game Saturday against North Carolina A&T at the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders cruised the rest of the way in a wire-to-wire 72-52 victory. Price finished with a game-high 22 points.

"You hope to get a 40-minute effort from your team," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "Tonight I thought we got that from beginning to end.  We were locked in on what the game plan was, especially on the defensive end."

The Highlanders shot 58.3 percent from behind the arc in the first half and held the Aggies to just 24 points in pushing to a 40-24 edge at the intermission. After A&T scored the first four points of the second half, Radford used an 18-6 run to ice the game. RU built its largest lead on Price's final three-pointer of the night with 6:47 to play and the Highlanders leading by 31 points, 67-36.

"R.J. got us started with a great energy boost and really just continued from there," Jones said. "Sharing the ball has become contagious for us, and the unselfishness has our guys getting not just good looks, but great looks."

Ya Ya Anderson, who was coming off a 33-point effort Wednesday vs. Central Penn, dished out a career best six assists, and Rashun Davis added four dimes to lead the Highlanders. Javonte Green finished with a steady 15 points and six rebounds to go with his four steals. Kyle Noreen led the team with seven caroms, and Price also had three thefts.

Richaud Pack led the Aggies with 13 points. Bruce Beckford added 11 for North Carolina A&T (3-6), which was coming off a home victory over Wright State on Thursday.

With the win, Radford remains unbeaten at the Dedmon Center this season in four games. The Highlanders improve to 6-2 for the first time in 20 years. The 1993-94 team was the last RU team to win six of its first eight games.

Radford is off this week for finals and plays next at Santa Clara on December 16. Tip is set for 10:00 p.m. (ET) against the Broncos. The Highlanders remain on the West Coast for a four-game road trip prior to Christmas. RU travels to UNLV on December 18 and will play Sacred Heart in Las Vegas on December 22. The final game of the trip is December 23 vs. either Florida Gulf Coast or Florida A&M. All of the games are part of the Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic.
