SIX GAMES ON TAP FOR HIGHLANDERS IN GEORGIA

Six games will be on the slate when Radford softball heads to Athens, Ga. and takes part in the Bulldog Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium. The Highlanders (1-3) will take on the host and 23rd-ranked Bulldogs (7-6) three times, Indiana State twice and North Dakota State (4-8) during this three-day event. Radford opens play on March 1 with the Sycamores (7-7) at 12:30 p.m. and concludes play with consecutive contests against Georgia on March 3 at 12:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Radford split on Sunday at the rain-shortened College of Charleston Cougar Classic… The Highlanders picked up their first win of the season with an 8-1 triumph over Wagner, before falling in five innings to South Carolina, 9-0… In the victory, the Highlanders were powered by a seven-run first and two RBI from freshman Whitney Davis and senior Morgan Eye… Freshmen Rachael Walters and Allie Reid combined on the four-hitter with Walters earning her first collegiate win (4 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1K)… Reid allowed two hits and has not allowed a run in three appearances this season.
 
RU TIDBITS: Davis, freshman Casey Burns and sophomore Hilari Hopkins recorded their first collegiate hits against Wagner… Davis and Burns knocked in runs, becoming the third and fourth Radford rookie to record an RBI on their first collegiate hit… 11 players that were not in uniform for the Highlanders last season have recorded at least one at bat with six recording a hit… Junior Jessie Hutchens has registered a hit in each of the first four games, two of which are doubles.
 
THE SYCAMORES: Indiana State is coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Blues City Classic (Southaven, Miss.), winning its opener against Wright State, 3-1… Shelby Wilson (.419) leads a quartet of Sycamores batting above .300 and shares the lead with Megan Stone (.375) in RBI (11)… Ashli Scott (36.1 IP, 29 K, 3.08 ERA) and Steph Fougerousse (40.1 IP, 24 K, 3.82 ERA) have logged the majority of the innings and have each recorded three wins… Radford owns the only win in the series, 8-5, in 1994.
 
THE BULLDOGS: No. 23/24 Georgia returns from a tough cross-country trip where it went 1-4 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif… The Bulldogs defeated Colorado State, 5-4, to open play but then lost four straight, which included defeats to No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 17 Stanford and No. 24 Washington… Georgia is 6-2 at home this season and is hosting its third and final tournament… The Bulldogs are batting .297 as a team with four players above .300, led by Geri Ann Glasco (.395), who also has a team-best four doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI… Glasco also paces them in the circle, posting a 4-1 mark with 39 strikeouts and a 2.41 ERA in 34.2 innings of work… Radford is 0-4 against Georgia with the last two meetings in the NCAA Regionals, including an 8-1 defeat in the 2010 Athens Regional final.
 
THE BISON: North Dakota State dropped two contests at the rain-shortened Carolina Classic hosted by North Carolina… Presley Glaser is batting a team-best .333 (7-21) with three runs and three stolen bases… In the circle, Whitney Johnson is 3-4 with a 1.60 ERA and 47 punchouts, while teams are only batting .183 against her in 43.2 innings of work… This will be the first meeting between the two squads.

UP NEXT: Radford heads to College Park, Md. for the Miken Invitational hosted by Maryland… The Highlanders will face the Terrapins, St. John's, Ohio State, Binghamton and Iowa during the three-day tournament.
