HIGHLANDERS ARRIVE AT THE BEACH FOR BIG SOUTH TOURNEY

CONWAY, S.C. - The Radford men's basketball team has arrived at the VisitMyrtleBeach.com 2013 Big South Basketball Tournament. The Highlanders went through a light shooting workout at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina, the host of this year's tournament. RU will face Winthrop in the opening round on Tuesday at noon in the opening game of the championship.

THE SERIES
♦ Radford leads the all-time series vs. Winthrop 32-30.
♦ These two teams have met eight times in the Big South Tournament with the Eagles holding a 6-2 advantage in those games.
♦ Winthrop leads the series in games on neutral courts, 4-2.
♦ Both teams are charter members of the Big South Conference. The series began in the 1984-85 season.
♦ The Highlanders have only played Charleston Southern (9) more times in the Big South Tournament than they have played Winthrop (8) and UNC Asheville (8).

EARLIER IN THE SEASON
♦ Radford defeated Winthrop at the Dedmon Center, 58-57, in the only meeting during the regular season.
Javonte Green scored 26 points, and R.J. Price hit the game-winning shot with just under a minute to play. He finished with 12 points.
♦ Winthrop led 29-27 at the half. It is the only game Radford won this season (1-14) when trailing at the intermission.
♦ Radford outscored Winthrop 14-0 in fast break points and 21-11 off turnovers.

STARTING LINEUP
♦ The Highlanders have used seven different starting lineups this season.
Javonte Green is the only player that has started every game this season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
♦ Winthrop enters Tuesday's first round matchup with a 13-16 overall record after finishing as the No. 5 seed in the South Division. The Eagles finished 6-10 in the league.
♦ The Eagles did win two out of their last three games, including a BracketBusters victory over Southeast Louisiana. WU did not play a neutral site game this season.
♦ Winthrop is led by Derrick Henry, who averages 11.4 points per game. Larry Brown leads the team in rebounding at 6.2 per game.
♦ Winthrop ranks last in the Big South in scoring offense at 60.4 points per game, but second in scoring defense giving up 61.6 points per contest.
♦ The Eagles rank 11th (just above RU, .398) in the Big South in field goal percentage. WU hits .420 from the floor. The Eagles lead the league, however, in field goal percentage defense (.408) and are second in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.313).

STATS NUGGETS
♦ Radford is 6-0 this season when holding opponents under 60 points.
♦ The Highlanders are second in the Big South in steals per game at 8.7. That ranks the team31st in the nation in that category.
R.J. Price leads the Big South in 3-point field goals made per game at 2.8.
Rashun Davis finished one point shy of his career high with 17 points in back-to-back games at High Point and vs. Liberty.
Rashun Davis tied a career high with six rebounds at High Point.
Kion Brown tied a career high with 14 points at High Point.
Jalen Carethers tied a career high with four blocks at High Point.
Javonte Green set a career high with three blocks at High Point.
Ya Ya Anderson tied a career high at High Point with four rebounds.

HIGHLANDERS IN THE CAREER AND SEASON RECORD BOOKS
Blake Smith currently ranks tied for 3rd in career steals at RU with 183.
Javonte Green ranks 7th all-time at RU with 182 offensive rebounds. For the 2012-13 season, Green ranks on the single-season charts as well: 4th with 64 steals, 7th with 159 def. rebounds, 9th with 94 off. rebounds, and 8th with 253 total rebounds.
Javonte Green needs just three steals to tie the single-season RU record of 67 held by Chris Hawkins and Phil Young.
R.J. Price ranks 9th all-time in career three-point field goals made with 144 and 8th for a single season this year with 82.

HARD TO BELIEVE STAT
Jalen Carethers has 17 career steals in his two years as a Highlander. They have all come one at a time in 17 different games.
