MEN’S GOLF POSTS TOP-3 SHOWING AT DAVIDSON INVITATIONAL

ROUND 2  |  INDIVIDUAL

DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Carding the third-lowest round of the day, the Radford men's golf team notched its third Top-5 showing of the season at the Davidson College Invitational. The tournament was contested on the par 72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club.

The Highlanders concluded the 36-hole event at 608 (307-301), which tied for third with Gardner-Webb and Elon. Tournament host Davidson registered a four-shot victory over Marshall with its two-round ledger of 596 (297-299). The Thundering Herd carded a 600 (298-302), eight strokes clear of the Highlanders, the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Phoenix.

Trailing by two shots entering the final round, the Wildcats' Sam Echikson returned an even-par 72 to the clubhouse, which proved to be enough to earn medalist honors in the 60-player field. Echikson's 145 (73-72) was one shot lower than Guilford's Noah Ratner's 146 (73-73).

Leading Radford was Callum Tarren, who charted his second Top-10 showing of the season by finishing tied for sixth at 150 (76-74). Also improving in the final round was Weston Eklund, who tied for 19th at 153 (79-74). Eklund has finished in the Top-20 at five of the six tournaments the Highlanders have played in.

One shot behind the 153rd-ranked golfer in the nation was Tanner Carbaugh, who logged a 154 (78-76) to tie for 24th—his second Top-25 performance of the season. Matt Harman and Conner Hayden rounded the Radford contingent by tying for 29th. Harman (75-80) and Hayden (78-77) both finished at 155.

The Bash at the Beach Intercollegiate is up next for the Highlanders. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the Surf Club and hosted by Appalachian State March 10-12.
