RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team is set to open its season Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Fall Classic in Lynchburg, Va.
Action commences at 1 p.m. with doubles play as Sara Andrade and Gemma Valls are matched with Liberty's Rebekah Jenkins and Maria Khval. At the same time, the duo of Meg Napolitano and Grace Sarver will test Yvonne Kamegne and Mafalda Lhorca of Norfolk State.
The other Highlander tandem to go at this time is Gisela Garcia and Taylor Newman as they take on James Madison's Emily Bradshaw and Cara Wirth.
Taylor Fay and Allison Michael are set to play two doubles matches this afternoon. Up first is a 1:45 encounter with Norfolk State's Ana Jovanovic and Virginia Tech's Frances Peyton. Next, the RU duo clashes with Christopher Newport's Brook Byrd and Angela Stallman at 3 p.m.
Three singles matches start at 3:30 p.m. for the Highlanders. Valls meets Brittany Franco of West Virginia State, Newman faces Franco's teammate Andreea Slusarciuc, and Garcia plays her first singles match in a Radford uniform when she goes up against Liberty's Nicola Wellman.
The second wave of singles matches begins at 5 p.m. Andrade battles Christopher Newport's Logan Eldridge, Sarver is paired against the Flames' Yang, and Napolitano ends her day with Norfolk State's Lhorca. Fay wraps up the day for the Highlanders with her 6:30 p.m. match against JMU's Ruxandra Andriescu.
