LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Meg Napolitano and sophomore Grace Sarver tallied three wins on the opening day of the Liberty Fall Classic to represent the Radford women's tennis team in its first action of the season.
Napolitano and Sarver overwhelmed Norfolk State's Yvonne Kamegne and Mafalda Lhorca, 8-3, in their flight's quarterfinal round. In the semifinals, the Highlander tandem routed Liberty's Annisha Domenech and Lauren Mabe, 8-2. Napolitano and Sarver are set to play in the championship final of their flight at 11 a.m. Saturday against James Madison's Jacqueline Palmucci and Rachel Nelson.
The duo carried their sensational play into singles, where both earned quarterfinal victories. Sarver is set to meet Mason Thomas of Longwood is her flight's semifinals, while Napolitano collides with Cara Wirth of JMU.
Taylor Newman and Sara Andrade also prevailed in their quarterfinal matches. Newman encounters Belen Rivera of Liberty in her flight's semifinals, while Andrade clashes with Rivera's teammate Valerie Thong in her flight.
Doubles play resumes Saturday at 8 a.m. for Radford, with the majority of its singles matches going at 1 p.m.
