CROSS COUNTRY VENTURES TO CHARLOTTE INVITE

RADFORD, Va. – Traveling to the Queen City this weekend, the Radford men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the eighth annual Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park, which will be the fifth time the meet is held there. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte hosts the event Saturday, Sept. 28.

Pacing the Highlanders last week in Buena Vista, Va., were Teresa Williamson and Ryan Farnan, who finished eighth and 14th in their respective races. Radford placed sixth in the men's overall and seventh in the women's overall team standings.Â

In her first run of the season, Williamson completed the 5K course in 19:22.67. Emily Marshall finished 37th at 20:55.12, and Courtney Rice placed 43rd at 21:02.34. The final two scorers were Malina Richardson (46th at 21:11.80) and Madeline Thomas (48th at 21:36.62).Â

Farnan ran the 8K course in 27:40.34 to lead the Highlanders. Daniel Moniak took 28th overall in 28:41.58, and Chaz Porter ran a 29:17.28 to place 43rd. The final two runners whose score counted were Thomas Keefe (47th at 29:35.53) and Alan Weaver (48th at 29:52.69).

One of the largest meets in the southeast, this year's field at McAlpine features 34 women's teams and 29 men's programs. Joining the Highlanders will be quality teams such as Marshall, Miami, North Florida, Northern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, North Carolina A&T, UNC Greensboro, USC Upstate, VMI, Davidson and Florida State. Due to the size of the field, the meet will be split into four races.

The meet kicks off at 8:45 a.m. with the women's 6K "gold" race, and the men's 8K "gold" event following shortly after at 9:20 a.m.
