GREEN'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS RADFORD TO ITS 10TH WIN, 76-59 OVER THE CITADEL

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - Javonte Green, who earlier in the day was named Big South Player of the Week, recorded his 17th career double-double and second of the season Thursday with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Radford to a 76-59 victory over The Citadel at the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders improved to 10-4 on the season.

Radford dominated from the onset building a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes and never trailing in the game. After The Citadel closed to within six points at 27-21 with 7:02 to play in the first half, the Highlanders answered with an 11-0 run to put the game on ice before halftime.

The Highlanders used a stingy defense to force nine first-half miscues by the Bulldogs and outscored them 13-0 in points off turnovers. Radford converted those steals into points, enjoying a 10-0 edge in fast break scoring in the first 20 minutes. A 20-12 rebounding advantage and a 26-10 margin in points in the paint proved in the Highlanders' favor by halftime as well.

"The Citadel being a military team, you know they are going to be a tough-minded group, and I wanted to make sure we came out and were the aggressors," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "We were the more physical team, and we played the hardest. Giving them just 25 points in the half really set the tone for the rest of the night."

The lead grew to as many as 25 in the second half as Radford cruised to its fourth straight win and moved to 6-0 at the Dedmon Center this season.

As impressive as Green's numbers were, which also included three assists, two steals, and a block, he got a lot of help from his mates in the team victory.

R.J. Price finished with 16 points and three assists. Jalen Carethers added 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots off the bench in one of his better performances of the season. The Highlanders had four different players hand out a team-high three assists.

For the game, Radford held The Citadel to 38.3 percent from the field and just 18.2 percent from behind the three-point line. RU shot 46.7 from the field and outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-29. RU won the turnover battle 16-9 and finished with impressive advantages in paint scoring (46-20), turnover scoring (17-6), and bench points (27-13).

"It all starts with defense, but on offense, we wanted to play inside-out tonight, and work the ball for good shots," Jones said. "We hit the offensive glass as well, and the guys were really locked in in all three areas."

Radford travels to Hampton on Saturday for the final non-conference game of the season before heading into Big South play next week. The Highlanders and the Pirates will tip at 4:00 p.m. from the Convocation Center in Hampton, Va.
