CAMPBELL RALLIES TO TRIP UP HIGHLANDERS, 65-63

BOX SCORE |

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell rallied in the second half to overcome a nine-point intermission lead by Radford to secure a 65-63 victory at home Wednesday night at the Gore Arena. R.J. Price led the Highlanders with 12 points on the night, but his three-pointer as time expired grazed the rim and left RU at 13-7 overall and 3-2 in the Big South North Division.

With leading scorer and rebounder Javonte Green saddled with foul trouble in the first half and logging just six minutes, Radford methodically built a lead as big as 11 points. Price caught fire late in the half nailing three straight from deep to help push the Highlanders to a 39-28 lead with the ball and a chance at the final shot of the half.

"We put ourselves in a position to win a game on the road," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "We just did not finish. The bottom line, you have to give credit to Campbell. They never stopped fighting."

Campbell's defense held on that final possession of the half drawing a charge on Rashun Davis, and the Camels closed with a basket to cut the deficit under double digits heading to the locker room, 39-30.

Still, Radford answered scoring the first two baskets of the second half to push the lead to its biggest margin of the night, 13 at 43-30 with 18:39 to play.

As the Highlanders went cold from the floor, the Camels found their stroke. RU shot just 31 percent in the second half, and CU hit just under 60 percent. Andrew Ryan's three-pointer with 7:25 to play capped a 13-4 run that gave the Camels a 54-53 lead.

"We weren't as consistent offensively playing inside-out, especially in the second half," Jones said. "We settled sometimes and didn't get out in transition and that bogged down our offense."

Trialing by as many as three, however, Radford again responded. Four straight points from Green, who finished with his third straight and 20th career double-double tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds, and a fourth three-pointer from Price gave RU a four-point lead with 2:36 remaining, 62-58. Price's three would be the last field goal the Highlanders would hit as Campbell closed the game with on a 7-1 run and claimed sole possession of first place in the division.

Anderson added 10 points for the Highlanders. Kyle Noreen chipped in nine. Both Brandon Holcomb and Davis scored seven.

Reco McCarter led Campbell with 17. Darius Leonard added 14, and Leek Leek scored 10.

Radford hosts Coastal Carolina at the Dedmon Center on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
