RADFORD HOLDS SERVE AT HOME BY DEFEATING CAMPBELL, 3-1

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team won its fourth match in a row by beating Big South foe Campbell, 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12), Saturday evening inside the Dedmon Center.

"Our team needed this," head coach Marci Jenkins referred to her team's return home. "The environment has been electric for each one of our four home matches this year. Our team feeds off our fans' enthusiasm, and we want them to know how appreciative we are of them. We played another great team today in Campbell. They are a scrappy team, so I am pleased we responded the way we did in that fourth set to close the match."

Jenkins' relief of being home can be easily understood. The Highlanders (14-6, 4-1 Big South) have not lost at home this season. In fact, RU has a seven-match winning streak inside Dedmon.

A balanced attack fueled Radford's offense this evening, led by Rachel Wiechecki's 17 kills. She added a match-high 22 digs to chart her 13th double-double of the season. Maddie Palmer (15), Emma Deininger (10) and Savannah Cantrell (10) also reached double-figure kills.

Jena Braden tossed out a match-best 47 assists, for an impressive 11.75 assists per set average. Kelby Jackson (14), Kaylor Nash (10) and Savanna Burton (10) joined Wiechecki with double-digit digs. In the blocking department, Deininger and Cantrell both swatted six attacks from the opposition.

For the second straight match, the Highlanders hit above .300 (.310). However, Radford's defense was just as impressive, quieting the Camels' offense to .067. RU held a commanding favor in kills (59-37) and blocks (12-3).

Lorin Thomas (11) was the lone player for Campbell (10-10, 2-3 Big South) to put down double-figure kills. Four Camels recorded double-figure digs, led by Mary Crema's 19.

The Highlanders travel to South Carolina for two more Big South contests next weekend. First up is a rematch of last year's conference championship between RU and Coastal Carolina. Opening serve is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. inside The HTC Center. Radford concludes the trip with a 7 p.m. tussle with Charleston Southern.
