HIGH POINT SPOILS SENIOR NIGHT WITH 3-1 DECISION OVER RADFORD

RADFORD, Va. - On a night when the Radford women's soccer program paid tribute to seven seniors, High Point (7-4-3, 4-2-1) came into Cupp Stadium and left with a 3-1 victory over the Highlanders. The loss was the fourth straight for RU (6-8-2, 3-4-1) and snapped a 16-game home unbeaten streak (13-0-3) against Big South competition, which dates back to October of 2011.

Radford nearly took the lead seconds into the match. Hannah Duff blasted the opening kickoff towards the High Point goal and nearly put it in the back of the net. Panther keeper Alex Persiani was forced to make a save off the bounce and tipped the ball just over the crossbar. Radford did break on top in the fourth minute when Duff converted a penalty kick to give the Highlanders an early lead.

"I liked the way we started both halves," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "But we have to maintain that level all the way through."

High Point found the counter to the early RU pressure in the 22nd. Sarah Sermonet scored the first of her two goals on the night to tie the game on an assist from Becca Rolfe. The Panthers took the lead for good shortly thereafter in the 25th minute. Kai-Lin Hernandez scored her first goal of the season heading in a service on a direct kick from Taylor Romano.

Katie McCormick replaced Sydney Chervenic in net for the second half and made a pair of saves in her 45 minutes of play. High Point sealed the game in the 70th minute on Sermonet's second goal of the night. A punt from reserve keeper Jordan Beets took a bounce off the head of Sermonet from 25 yards, and as a Highlander defender, McCormick, and HPU's Baile Beattie converged to make a play on the ball just outside the six, the ball snuck past all three and into the net.

Duff led the RU offense with three shots. Jasmine Sampson and Miranda Carlson each posted a pair of shots.

Prior to the game, Radford saluted the outstanding careers of seven seniors - Caitlin Annear, Annabel Bergin, Stephanie Herb, Caitlin Kick, Sampson, Melissa Vogel, and Kara Wade - who have been a part of two Big South regular season and two Big South Tournament titles in their four years as Highlanders. Their final home match will be played Wednesday when RU hosts Coastal Carolina for a 4:00 p.m. start.

"We have to stay positive and get some points in the next two matches to make the tournament," Sohrabi said. "We will continue to stay positive and work hard."
