RADFORD SNAPS SKID WITH IMPORTANT WIN OVER COASTAL IN HOME FINALE

RADFORD, Va. - The Radford (7-8-2, 4-4-1) women's soccer team all but sealed a berth into the Big South Tournament with a 1-0 victory Wednesday over Coastal Carolina (8-7-2, 5-2-1) in the final home game of the season at Cupp Stadium. The win snapped a four-game losing skid as Caitlin Annear closed out her home playing career with the game-winning goal, a header off a set play service from Jordan Lundin in the 39th minute.

Along with Annear's second goal of the season, Sydney Chervenic was outstanding in goal turning away all five Chanticleer shots on goal and recording her first career shutout. The Highlander defense faced 16 total shots, including Coastal holding a 10-1 shot advantage in the second half, but Chervenic and the back line held steady to knock off the league's number two team in the standings.

Offensively, the Highlanders made the most of their opportunities. Kara Wade returned to the lineup and immediately had an impact recording the game's first shot on goal. It was just one of thee on frame for RU on the day, which included the goal from Annear. Hannah Thomas also recorded a shot on goal for Radford, which tallied five shots total as a team.

The win also kept mathematically alive the possibility of Radford finishing among the top four seeds in the Big South regular season and earning a home game in the tournament quarterfinals. The Highlanders will need a win in their final regular season game at Winthrop on Saturday and then some help against teams above them in the standings for that to happen.
