Coming off a pair of tough in-state road losses to open the season, the Dedmon Center and Highlander home crowd await the Radford (0-2) men's basketball team as it plays host to head coach Mike Jones' alma mater, Howard (1-2) in the home opener Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Jones played guard for the Bison from 1983-87. The game follows the women's home opener vs. Norfolk State.

Howard leads the all-time series with the Highlanders, 2-1. The two have not met a since home-and-home series in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. Radford won the last time they met, a 66-65 decision in Washington, D.C. The Bison won in their only other trip to the Dedmon Center in 2002, 63-58 in overtime. The teams began the series on a neutral court in Augusta, Ga. in the 1985-86 season with HU winning 73-64.

SCOUTING THE BISON
Howard is coming off a 56-49 loss at William & Mary on Tuesday night. The Bison lost their season opener at Miami (Fla.), 84-49, and then defeated Goucher, 101-54, in their home opener. James Daniel III, who is the preseason player of the year in the MEAC, is the only player averaging double figures at 16.7 ppg. He also averages 6.0 rebounds per contest. James Carlton leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 per game.

THE HIGHLANDERS
RU is still looking for its first win after losses at Richmond and a last-second decision at James Madison. With back-to-back double-doubles in the first two games of the season, Javonte Green is off to a fast start in the 2014-15 season. Green posted 21 points and 12 rebounds vs. the Spiders and 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Dukes. At JMU, he was one of four Highlanders in double figures, including 15 points from Rashun Davis, 11 from R.J. Price, and 10 by Kyle Noreen. With his 18 points in the first two games of the season, Price has now moved into 12th place all-time on the Radford career scoring list with 1,244 points.

Jones is 23-20 inside the Dedmon Center entering his fourth season. Last year, the Highlanders opened the home schedule with seven straight wins and ended with a 10-4 mark overall. Radford is 299-115 all-time at Dedmon. The Highlanders have won 11 straight home openers and are 35-5 all-time in first games at home.
