RADFORD, Va. –
Fresh off its 74-65 overtime victory Thursday night against Norfolk State, the Radford women's basketball team returns to the court Saturday at 2 p.m. for a nonconference clash with Youngstown State inside the Dedmon Center. The game will mark the first time the two programs meet on the hardwood.

SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins are 2-0 on the season after picking up wins against Niagara and Kent State. They are winning their games by an average of 20.5 points per game.

YSU is an efficient shooting team, converting 50.5 percent of its attempts from the floor, which includes 37.3 percent from long range.

The Penguins return three starters, but just five letterwinners from last year's 15-16 squad. Leading the returning group is preseason First-Team All-Horizon League pick Heidi Schlegel, who averaged 20 points per game in 2013-14. She is averaging a double-double (16.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg) through two games this season.

Freshman Nikki Arbanas, who is the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Week, tallied 25 points in the Penguins' season opener against Niagara.

YOUTH ON DISPLAY
Fourteen newcomers, including 13 freshmen, are split between the Radford and Youngstown State rosters. YSU has a Horizon League-high seven freshmen.

AVERY ON BRINK OF HISTORY
With 12 more 3-pointers, senior guard Ayana Avery will break the Radford record for 3-pointers made in a career. She currently has 192 in her time as a Highlander. Kylie Williamson (1999-04) holds the top spot with 203. Avery already set the single-season mark with 95 made 3-pointers in 2013-14.

The 5-foot-5 sharpshooter is also inching closer to the 1,000-point club. Avery has 895 career points through 90 career games played. She would become the 21st member of the group.

UP NEXT
Radford returns to the road to face its second of three ACC opponents this season when the team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. for Wednesday's 2 p.m. clash with the Panthers inside the Petersen Events Center. Ironically, YSU plays Pitt this season as well. The Penguins head to the Steel City to play the Panthers on Dec. 21.
