STEEL CITY SHOWDOWN WITH PITT ON DECK FOR HIGHLANDERS

LIVE STATS  |  LIVE VIDEO  |  LIVE AUDIO  |  GAME NOTES

RADFORD, Va. –
Radford will visit the Steel City for the second time in five seasons Wednesday when the Highlanders collide with Pittsburgh for a 2 p.m. nonconference women's basketball contest inside the Petersen Events Center.

SCOUTING PITTSBURGH
Pitt will be playing its second-straight opponent from the Commonwealth, Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers visited 23rd-ranked James Madison on Sunday, falling 80-64.

With the loss, Pitt evened its record at 2-2 on the season. One of the Panthers' wins came against Michigan. In that game, Pitt drained a school-record 13 3-pointers on its way to one of its biggest wins in recent program history.

The Panthers' offense centers around senior guard Brianna Kiesel, who has started every game since she stepped on campus. The 5-foot-7 New York native averages a team-best 17.8 points per game, which rank eighth in the ACC. She has eclipsed the 20-point plateau 26 times in her career.

At 6-foot-3, Monica Wignot provides a post presence for Pitt on the inside. She has recorded 11 blocks on the season. Her 2.75 blocks per game rank third in the ACC and 31st nationally. Wignot is a fifth-year graduate student, who played four years of volleyball for the Panthers.

Another player to keep an eye on is freshman Stasha Carey, who averages 11.8 points per game and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game. She ranks eighth in the ACC in rebounding. Carey played on the same AAU team as Radford freshman forward Jayda Worthy.

Wednesday's meeting will mark just the second time these two programs have faced each other on the hardwood. Pitt claimed a 77-46 victory over the Highlanders on Nov. 21, 2010 in Pittsburgh.

RADFORD ROUNDUP
RU will make the trip up north looking to even its record at 2-2. The Highlanders hit the road for the second time this season after opening the 2014-15 campaign in Charlottesville against Virginia.

Senior guard Ayana Avery leads a balanced offense at 9.3 points per game. Three other Highlanders average over seven points per game.

Freshman forward Janayla White tops the rebounding department with her eight boards per outing. White and senior forward Jordynn Gaymon each have four blocks this season. The duo fuels Radford to a 5.3 blocks per game average, which ranks fifth in the Big South and 40th in the nation.

AVERY ON BRINK OF HISTORY
With 11 more 3-pointers, senior guard Ayana Avery will break the Radford record for 3-pointers made in a career. She currently has 193 in her time as a Highlander. Kylie Williamson (1999-04) holds the top spot with 203. Avery already set the single-season mark with 95 made 3-pointers in 2013-14.

The 5-foot-5 sharpshooter is also inching closer to the 1,000-point club. Avery has 898 career points through 91 career games played. She would become the 21st member of the group.

UP NEXT
Radford continues its road swing Sunday in Boone, N.C., against Appalachian State. Tipoff between the Highlanders and the Mountaineers is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Holmes Center.
