RADFORD, Va. – Back from Thanksgiving, the Radford women's basketball team travels to Boone, N.C., for Sunday's 2 p.m. test against Appalachian State inside the Holmes Center.

SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
App State will be playing its second straight opponent from the Big South, Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers defeated Gardner-Webb, 77-69, Tuesday night in Boone.

After opening the season with a 111-74 loss to 10th-ranked Kentucky, App State has won its last three contests. The Mountaineers (3-1) are averaging 77.2 points per game, which rank fourth in the Sun Belt and 53rd nationally. They are one of the top teams in the Sun Belt from 3-point land, shooting 40 percent. That percentage ranks second in the Sun Belt and 22nd nationally.

Radford native Maryah Sydnor averages a team-best 22.5 points per game to lead App State. She connects on 54.1 percent of her field goal attempts. The 6-foot-1 senior is an even better free throw shooter, making 91.3 percent of her tries from the charity stripe. Her accuracy tops the Sun Belt and ranks 51st in the country. Sydnor also pulls down a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game.

Senior guard Katie Mallow joins Sydnor in double-figure scoring at 17.5 points per game. She also dishes out a team-best four assists per contest.

Sunday's meeting will mark the 19th time these two programs have faced each other on the hardwood. App State claimed an 83-60 victory over the Highlanders last season. In that game, Sydnor eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career.

RADFORD ROUNDUP
RU will be aiming for its fourth win in its previous five encounters with the Mountaineers. Radford will also be gunning for its first road victory since a 64-52 triumph over UNC Asheville on Feb. 13 of this year.

Senior guard Ayana Avery leads a balanced offense at 7.8 points per game. Four other Highlanders average at least six points per game.

Senior forward Jordynn Gaymon tops the rebounding department with her 8.3 boards per outing. Gaymon also has a team-best seven blocks this season. As a team, RU averages 5.8 blocks per outing. That average ranks third among Big South teams.

AVERY ON BRINK OF HISTORY
With 10 more 3-pointers, senior guard Ayana Avery will break the Radford record for 3-pointers made in a career. She currently has 194 in her time as a Highlander. Kylie Williamson (1999-04) holds the top spot with 203. Avery already set the single-season mark with 95 made 3-pointers in 2013-14.

The 5-foot-5 sharpshooter is also inching closer to the 1,000-point club. Avery has 901 career points through 92 career games played. She would become the 21st member of the group.
