HIGHLANDERS PULL INTO A TIE FOR FIRST PLACE WITH SWEEP OF CAMPBELL



BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Shortly after Radford prevailed in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-13) over Campbell inside Gore Arena Friday night, the Highlanders learned they were tied for first place in the Big South volleyball standings.
 
On top of Radford winning its fifth match in a row to improve to 19-7 overall, High Point downed Liberty (3-1) to create a tie for first place between RU and the Lady Flames. Radford and Liberty, which played each other a week ago, have 9-2 records in league play. The Highlanders travel to High Point tomorrow for a 2 p.m. clash on the Panthers' Senior Day.
 
"It is always great to come on the road and get a win," head coach Marci Jenkins said. "We were fortunate to get out of here in three. Campbell is a solid team and knows how to grind its way back into matches. I was pleased with the way we executed, especially in the third set."
 
Rachel Wiechecki (12 kills, 10 digs) and Jena Braden (32 assists, 10 digs) recorded a pair of double-doubles to lead Radford to its ninth sweep of the season. Megan Short joined Wiechecki in double figures, offensively, with 10 winners on 17 swings (.529).
 
Anchoring the back row for the Highlanders was Kelby Jackson, who finished with 14 digs. Savannah Cantrell posted a match-high five blocks. In all, Radford out-blocked the Camels, 9-2.
 
Campbell (12-16, 3-8 Big South), which was held to .105 on the attack, became the Highlanders' second opponent in a row to hit below .200. Alexis Hein contributed nine kills to the struggling offense, while Mary Crema tallied 29 digs at libero. Despite its offensive woes, the Camels dialed up an impressive nine aces at the service line.
