RADFORD ESCAPES HIGH POINT WITH 3-2 VICTORY

HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the second time this season, Radford and High Point battled to a five-set volleyball affair. And like the first meeting, the Highlanders were able to survive with a 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-11) triumph in Big South volleyball action Saturday afternoon inside the Millis Center.

With its sixth-straight win, Radford (20-7, 10-2 Big South) reached 20 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2000-01. RU also improved to 7-1 in five-set matches this season.

"This group is just incredible," head coach Marci Jenkins conveyed. "They have been through so many tight matches throughout their respective careers. I am confident in them executing our offense in pressure situations like today. Now we have a big weekend coming up at home as we try to send our senior class out with a bang."

Leading the charge for the Highlanders was Rachel Wiechecki, who uncorked 19 kills and secured an insane 28 digs for her 20th double-double of the season. Maddie Palmer, the reigning Big South freshman of the week, pulverized 14 attacks on 43 attempts for a .302 rating. Savannah Cantrell finished with a career-high 13 kills to accompany her two blocks. Megan Short guided the blocking department with three rejections.

Jena Braden topped the 50-assist mark for the fourth time this season by delivering 53 helpers to go along with 14 digs for her 14th double-double on the year. Kelby Jackson and Kaylor Nash contributed 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

Although RU had a better kill tally (67-64) than the Panthers (11-14, 5-7 Big South), High Point managed advantages in digs (96-86), blocks (10-3), aces (5-2) and hitting percentage (.238-.204).

Kristin Heldt, who was playing her final home match for HPU on Senior Day, cranked 16 kills at a .405 pace in addition to 14 digs and two blocks. Haley Barnes also notched a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs, while Camryn Freiberg sent down 14 kills and registered a match-best eight blocks. Gabi Mirand passed out 50 assists at the setter position. Anchoring the Panthers' back row was Wavie Chin, who dug a match-high 32 attacks.

Radford concludes its regular season against Gardner-Webb (Nov. 14) and UNC Asheville (Nov. 15) next weekend. Senior Day is scheduled for the UNC Asheville match. Braden, Cantrell, Kristina Cascio, Emma Deininger and Wiechecki will be honored prior to the 4 p.m. first serve.
