HIGHLANDERS LOOK TO EVEN BIG SOUTH RECORD AGAINST COASTAL

RADFORD, Va. – With final exams in the books, the Radford women's basketball team returns to the court for the first time in a week to take on Big South foe Coastal Carolina, Saturday at 4 p.m., inside the Dedmon Center.

SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
After playing their first seven games in South Carolina, the Chanticleers (5-2) are set to leave the state for the first time this season. Six of Coastal's first seven games have been at home. The team's lone road game was at Furman in Greenville, S.C.

Even though the Highlanders lead the head-to-head series with CCU, 41-18, a combined three points have decided the previous three encounters. Of those three games, Radford was on the winning side once. RU defeated the Chants, 63-62, in Conway on Jan. 30 of this year.

On the strength of eclipsing the 100-point plateau twice this season, Coastal leads the Big South in scoring at 82.6 points per game.

However, the Chants have not played a strong schedule like Radford. Opponents such as UNC Pembroke, Pfeiffer, Barber-Scotia and Johnson & Wales have visited The HTC Center, allowing CCU to build some confidence and pad its stats in the early going. Coastal averages 55.4 rebounds per game and is outrebounding its opponents by 20.6.

Stephanie Isaacs, a redshirt junior who transferred from Fairleigh Dickinson, leads the Chants in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Her average ranks third in the Big South. The 5-foot-7 guard is Coastal's top threat from outside, connecting on 37.8 percent of her 3-point tries.

Preseason All-Big South honoree AJ Jordan contributes 13.6 points per game, while Ced Gibson and Anna Vogt each average 13.1 points per game. Sophomore forward Alexis Robinson leads the league in rebounding at 12 boards per contest.

Of Coastal's 13 players, seven are transfers: Alira Mihocic (Moberly Area CC), Gibson (St. John's), Khadejah Wilkerson (Appalachian State), Vogt (Three Rivers CC), S. Isaacs (Fairleigh Dickinson), Nicole Isaacs (Manhattan) and Robinson (Moberly Area CC).

RADFORD ROUNDUP
RU (2-5) will be looking to even its Big South record at 1-1 following its 72-63 loss to Liberty last Saturday inside the Dedmon Center.

Senior Ayana Avery paces the offense with her 10.0 points per game. She is the Highlanders' top threat from beyond the arc. The 5-foot-5 guard has a team-high 16 3-pointers through seven contests.

With one more triple, Avery will break the Radford record for 3-pointers made in a career. She currently has 203 in her time as a Highlander, which is tied with Kylie Williamson (1999-04). Avery already set the single-season mark with 95 made 3-pointers in 2013-14.

The Cleveland, N.C., sharpshooter is also inching closer to the 1,000-point club. Avery has 940 points through 95 career games played. She would become the 21st member of the group.

Over in the rebounding department, freshman Janayla White pulls down 8.6 caroms per contest. She ranks seventh in the conference with her average. Following back-to-back games of three blocks, White ranks fifth in blocks per game (1.86).

UP NEXT
