HIGH POINT UPENDS RADFORD AT DEDMON CENTER

BOX SCORE |

RADFORD, Va. - John Brown scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead High Point to a 72-65 win over Radford at the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon. Javonte Green recorded his 22nd career double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but it was not enough to lift the Highlanders in the Big South divisional matchup.

Radford (17-10, 7-5) held a five-point lead, 52-47, with 9:15 to play, but Brown led the Panthers on a 13-3 run over the next six minutes. In that stretch, he scored 10 of HPU's points, and Devante Wallace added a three-point basket which gave the Panthers the lead for good with 6:39 to play. Wallace scored 18 points on the day.

"We didn't do a good job of blocking Brown out," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "He scored with tremendous effort on the offensive glass."

The Highlanders opened the game quickly building an eight-point lead, 19-11 in the game's first six minutes. Kyle Noreen scored all eight of his points during that span, including a pair of three-point baskets.

Radford held High Point (11-13, 7-4) to just 37 percent shooting in the first half and carried a 34-30 lead into the locker room. But the Panthers answered with a 57 percent shooting second half and a zone defense that stifled the RU offense.

"We were far too stagnant offensively the whole night," Jones said. "We held the ball too long instead of moving it."

R.J. Price and Kion Brown finished in double figures for the Highlanders with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but RU suffered its fourth loss at home during the conference season.

"The energy level just wasn't where it needed to be to beat a quality team like High Point," Jones said.

For the game, Radford shot just 40 percent from the field and forced only seven High Point turnovers. The Highlanders committed just eight turnovers, but those miscues led to a 14-6 advantage in points on the other end for the Panthers.

Radford heads to Farmville, Va. on Wednesday to face Longwood for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
