WINTHROP TRIO LIFTS EAGLES OVER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL, 57-40

BOX SCORE

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three players combined for all but 10 of Winthrop's points as the Eagles defeated Radford, 57-40, Saturday afternoon in Big South women's basketball action at Winthrop Coliseum.

"Winthrop showed why they're the No. 1 team in the Big South right now," head coach Mike McGuire said. "They're athletic, skilled and have multiple players who can score in a variety of ways. I have to give a lot of credit to Winthrop, but we definitely did not give them our best shot. We have to refocus and prepare for a crucial game at Longwood next Saturday."

Erica Williams (18), Schaquilla Nunn (17) and Dequesha McClanahan (12) combined for 47 of Winthrop's (19-6, 13-3 Big South) 57 points, or 82.5 percent of its scoring. No one else on the Eagles' roster had more than four points. In addition to their scoring, Williams (10) and Nunn (12) accounted for 22 of Winthrop's 46 rebounds. The Eagles' 46-29 rebounding advantage fueled a 20-2 margin in second-chance points.

Winthrop shot 40.3 percent for the game and 70 percent from the charity stripe. With the win, the Eagles won their sixth game in a row.

For the second straight game, Aisha Foy was the top scorer for the Highlanders (7-19, 5-12 Big South) with 12 points. Kermisha Clark reached double-figure scoring for the second consecutive game with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Rachael Ross had an impressive showing on the glass, pulling down a career-high 12 boards. RU shot 32.7 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line.

Radford plays its final regular season road game next Saturday in Farmville, Va. against Longwood. Tipoff with the Lancers is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Willett Hall.
