ROUNDS 1-2

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – After opening with a 306 in Monday morning's first round, Radford men's golf rebounded with a 296 in its second round to climb to fifth place at the Wexford Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being contested on the Wexford Plantation course, which measures 6,913 yards and is a par 72 layout.

USC Aiken, which entered the event as the No. 2-ranked Division II team in the nation, was the only one to fire two sub-300 rounds during the opening day. The Pacers' 593 (297-296) is six shots clear of Charleston Southern's 599 (299-300).

Elon and Presbyterian College are tied for third at 601, one swing ahead of the Highlanders. Radford's 296 in the afternoon tied for the second-best round of the tournament through 36 holes. VCU is sixth at 605 (300-305), followed by Francis Marion (606), William & Mary (607), Austin Peay State (607) and Wofford (608).

DePaul (609), Richmond (615), Cleveland State (619), Campbell (625), Ohio (632), Dayton (635) and High Point (637) round out the 17-team field.

Callum Tarren and Conner Hayden lead the way for the Highlanders as they are in a six-way tie for 12th place on the individual leaderboard. Tarren shot the lowest first-round score for RU with a 3-over-par 75. He clipped one shot off that figure in the afternoon session to bring in a 5-over-par 149 (75-74).

Hayden ignited the strong surge for the Highlanders in the second round with his 1-over-par 73. Combined with his morning score of 76, the sophomore joined Tarren at 149 (76-73).

Two shots behind and in a tie for 24th is Ryan Rettberg, who carded a 151 (77-74). Tanner Carbaugh, who is tied for 37th, made the biggest improvement among Radford golfers between his two rounds to chart a 154 (79-75). Nick Brediger's 158 (78-80) has the freshman tied for 59th.

As a team, the Highlanders logged 26 birdies, which are tied with VCU for the most among the 17 teams. Tarren, Hayden and Rettberg each recorded seven along the way.

Taking the overnight lead was PC's Davis Parker, who is the lone golfer in red figures at 1-under-par 143 (71-72). He is three shots ahead of Brandon Robinson-Thompson (USC Aiken), Kyle Godsman (USC Aiken) and Adam Ball (VCU).
