SOFTBALL SHUT OUT BY BUTLER, 2-0

BOX SCORE CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Butler's Leah Bry tossed a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the Bulldogs blanked Radford, 2-0 in the Highlanders first game on day two of the Frost Classic at Warner Park.
 
Bry allowed just six base runners, three over the final six innings to earn the win. She walked two and hit a batter.
 
The Highlanders only scoring threat came in the first when they loaded the bases with two outs. But a base running mistake at second base forced Becky Mantel, who was on third, to get caught in a run down for the final out of the frame.
 
Mantel, sophomore Megan Honaker and senior Jessie Hutchens each singled for Radford.

Freshman Abby Morrow suffered the defeat in her first collegiate start. She surrendered two runs on five hits in three-plus innings. Sophomore Rachael Walters came in and tossed three innings of scoreless relief. She struck out five and allowed one hit.
 
Butler pushed across single runs in the third and fourth to grab a for the only runs it would need In the third, the Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead with a two-out rally thanks to a double by Brandice Sallee followed by a RBI single from Grace Norwood.
 
Sarah Gronowski dropped in a bases loaded RBI single with no outs in the fourth. The Highlanders avoided further damage as Walters was able to get out of the jam, including a strikeout to end the threat.
 
Radford returns to action at 4:00 p.m. against host Chattanooga.
