PRESBYTERIAN NIPS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL, 53-46

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. – Keyonna Allen recorded a career-high 22 points to lead Presbyterian College to a 53-46 win over Radford Thursday night in Big South women's basketball action at the Dedmon Center.

Despite leading by as many as 13 in the second half, the Highlanders (5-18, 3-11 Big South) were unable to hold on for their third win in a row. Rachael Ross' layup with 18:59 to go in the game provided Radford with that 13-point margin, but PC was able to gradually chip away at its deficit.

Trailing 35-25, the Blue Hose (6-17, 4-10 Big South) embarked on an 18-8 run to tie the contest at 43 with 6:40 showing on the clock. It was the first tie of the game. PC finally grabbed its first lead of the contest two minutes later and never surrendered it.

Entering the game with the top defense in the conference (only allowing 54 points per game), the Blue Hose only conceded 46 to RU and held the Highlanders to 37.7 percent shooting. Radford took care of the ball, turning it over a season-low eight times. It was the fewest turnovers since Feb. 25, 2012.

Ayana Avery reached double digits, offensively, for the 18th time this season. She finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Ross contributed 13 points and a team-high six rebounds for the Highlanders. Breshara Gordon, who missed the two teams' first meeting this season, ended with eight points and a career-high-tying seven assists.

In addition to Allen's scoring output, Karlee Taylor chalked up 13 points for PC. After shooting 32 percent in the first half, the Blue Hose heated up to 50 percent in the final 20 minutes to finish at 41.2 percent for the game. PC assisted on 16 of its 21 made field goals (76.2 percent).

Behind a blazing start, Radford possessed a 14-8 lead less than seven minutes into the contest. Over the next six minutes, the scoring slowed down to the pace PC is accustomed to as the Blue Hose recorded the two sides' only two points during that span.

The Highlanders remain at home for Saturday's 2 p.m. contest against Gardner-Webb, which will serve as Radford's annual Play 4Kay game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
