DOMINANT SECOND HALF LEADS RADFORD TO THIRD STRAIGHT ROAD WIN

BOX SCORE |

CLINTON, S.C. - Trailing by a point after a sloppy first half, Radford rallied in the second 20 minutes to post an 83-66 victory Saturday at Presbyterian. The Highlanders closed the game on a 22-6 run to pull away from the Blue Hose, led by Ya Ya Anderson's 23 points and Javonte Green's double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Rashun Davis came off the bench with 15 points and tied his career high with six rebounds. The reserve guard also dished out five assists as the Highlander subs outscored the PC bench players, 25-0.

"We knew we had more depth than them, so it was important for us to push the ball in transition," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "We wanted to wear them down."

Green picked up two early fouls and did not score in the first half. Markus Terry paced the Blue Hose tying his career high with 21 points in the first half alone. He finished with 29, and Jordan Downing added 23 for PC. Radford trailed 36-35 at the break.

RU shot 67 percent from the floor in the second half, and held PC under 40 percent at 39.3 in the final half. PC only connected on 17 percent from behind the arc, while Anderson's five field goals from deep opened up the offensive flow for the Highlanders late in the game.

"We didn't panic," Jones said. "And the guys talked each other through it before we were able to get control of the game. I have a lot of respect for PC."

The double-double for Green was his second consecutive after posting a career high 33 points at Charleston Southern on Wednesday. He now has 22 double-doubles for his career at Radford.

The win, which was third straight road victory after previous successful trips to Winthrop and Charleston Southern, moved the overall record to 16-9 and assured that the Highlanders will avoid a losing season for the first time under Jones as he rebuilds the RU program. Radford is 6-4 and a game out of first place in the Big South North Division.

Radford returns to the Dedmon Center for a nationally-televised game Thursday night vs. UNC Asheville. The Highlanders and the Bulldogs will face off at 7:00 p.m., and the game will be carried live on ESPNU.
