HISTORIC SEASON ENDS AT ODU IN CBI QUARTERS

BOX SCORE NORFOLK, Va. - Radford's 22-win season, which tied the school mark for wins as an NCAA Division I member and included the first postseason win during that same span, came to an end Monday at Old Dominion, 82-59, in the quarterfinal round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). RU finishes 22-13 on the year.

Javonte Green posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Ya Ya Anderson added 11 points to lead the Highlanders, who allowed the Monarchs to open the game with a 27-9 push and never recovered.

"We just didn't have enough defensive intensity to overcome a poor shooting night," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "We missed a couple assignments early which allowed them to build a lot of momentum."

Richard Ross scored 17 of his career high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds to lead ODU to the semifinal round. The Monarchs had five players score in double figures, and outrebounded RU 44-29. The hosts shot 52 percent from the floor.

Radford shot just 30 percent in the first half and trailed 39-23 at the break. Still, the Highlanders showed some life in the early part of the second half. Back-to-back treys from Green and Anderson cut the lead to 11, and with the ball. But Anderson's attempt to cut the lead to eight from deep spun out, and ODU answered with a 12-3 run that put the game out of reach, 56-35.

"We just couldn't sustain our effort tonight," Jones said. "You can't give up 82 points to a team that averages in the 60s and expect to win."

The game was in stark contrast to the Oregon State victory in the opening round. RU shot 11 percent from behind the arc in the first half and just 12-26 from the free throw line for the game.

The season ends with this loss, but the momentum of the program is still evident.

"To be sitting here talking about a team that won a postseason game and 22 games speaks to the hard work these guys have put in over three years. It doesn't happen overnight. Our goal every day is just to get a little better," Jones said.
