LEXINGTON, VA. – Senior Kara Wade scored in the 57th minute and freshman Katie McCormick made three saves as Radford posted a 1-0 road win over VMI on Friday evening at Patchin Field.
It was Wade's team-leading fourth goal of the season and the captain's second game-winner in as many matches. McCormick's three saves earned the rookie keeper her first collegiate clean sheet.
"It was great to see us come out and fight today and get our first road win of the season," said head coach Ben Sohrabi. "Our goal was to get two victories this weekend. We got one and now look forward Appalachian State on Sunday."
Wade broke the scoreless deadlock when she collected the ball following a deflected VMI clearance and beat the Keydet keeper for the contest's lone goal.
The Highlanders finished the match with a 14-9 advantage in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Wade registered a game-best four shots, while junior Asyia Mitchell chipped in with three.
McCormick made two of her three saves in a scoreless first half. Radford held a 5-3 advantage in shots, including a Hannah Duff effort that caromed off the post in the 19th minute.
The Highlanders return home on Sunday for its final non-conference match when they host Appalachian State at 1:00 p.m.
