RADFORD ROUNDUP

  • The Highlanders (7-8, 4-2 Big South), who have won four straight games for the first time since Jan. 2013, find themselves tied with Winthrop and Campbell for third place in the Big South standings entering Tuesday's action.
  • With a win, Radford would surpass its win total (7) from the 2013-14 season.
  • Senior Ayana Avery is the only double-figure scorer for RU at 10.1 points per game. She is one of the Highlanders' top threats from beyond the arc. The 5-foot-5 guard has a team-high 34 3-pointers through 15 contests. Her 2.3 3-pointers per game rank first in the Big South.
  • Over in the rebounding department, freshman Janayla White pulls down 7.9 caroms per contest. Her average ranks eighth in the conference. On top of her rebounding, White ranks fifth in the Big South in blocks per game, rejecting 1.7 shots per outing. In conference-only games, RU leads the league with its +9.2 rebounding margin.
  • Paced by Aisha Foy's .400 clip from long range, Radford tops the Big South in 3-point field goal percentage (.322). Foy is one of two Highlanders who average over 30 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
  • RU will be aiming to snap a three-game losing skid in the all-time series with Winthrop, which the Highlanders lead, 53-15.
  • Radford's last win in the series came on March 9, 2012 in the Big South tournament quarterfinals at the Millis Center on the campus of High Point University.

SCOUTING WINTHROP

  • The Eagles (8-7, 4-2 Big South) enter Tuesday's game having lost two of their last three games. They dropped an 81-55 decision to defending Big South regular-season champion High Point last Saturday on the road.
  • Winthrop features two of the premier players in the league—Erica Williams and Schaquilla Nunn. Williams averages a team-best 16.1 points per game, which rank second among Big South players. She also adds 8.8 rebounds per game.
  • Nunn, who contributes 13.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, is the only conference player to average a double-double. At 6-foot-3, Nunn is the Big South's top shot blocker, swatting 3.5 shots per contest. Her average ranks ninth, nationally.
  • Led by Nunn, the Eagles top the conference and rank 18th in the country in blocks per game (5.8). They also lead the Big South in fewest personal fouls per game (15.5).
  • Like Radford, Winthrop is a hot-shooting team from beyond the arc. The Eagles connect on 31.6 percent of their attempts from long range; that average only trails RU in the Big South rankings. Samiya Wright is Winthrop's top threat from downtown, shooting a conference-best 44.6 percent.

  • Radford Athletics is extending an invitation to all youth and their families to attend Tuesday night's game against Winthrop.

UP NEXT

  • Radford heads to Buies Creek, N.C., for Saturday's 1 p.m. showdown with Campbell inside Gore Arena.
  • The game will be the first of at least two ESPN3 broadcasts for the Highlanders this season.
